About Us

The Victorian Auditor-General's Office is a public sector audit organisation providing auditing services to the Victorian Parliament and Victorian public sector agencies and authorities.

The office assists the Auditor-General, who is an independent officer of Parliament, appointed under legislation to examine and report to Parliament and the community on the efficient and effective management of public sector resources, and provide assurance on the financial integrity of Victoria's system of government.

The Audit Act 1994 sets out the Auditor-General's functions, mandate and powers. Our audit clients comprise over 600 public sector entities.

Our principal client is Parliament, and the Public Accounts and Estimate Committee is our primary point of contact with Parliament.

We deliver a range of audit reports and publications, the primary publications being performance audit reports, reports on the results of our financial statement audits, and newsletters. To find out more on our products please go to Reports & Publications.

We employ around 150 people and we are located in the Melbourne central business district.

OUR PURPOSE is to provide independent assurance to the Victorian Parliament on the accountability and performance of the Victorian public sector.

THE OUTCOME THAT WE SEEK is that Parliament, executive government and agencies have greater confidence in the accountability and performance of public sector agencies.

We place a strong focus on the skills and abilities of our staff.
