Welcome to the 57th Parliament

This web page is designed to inform Parliamentarians and their staff about the role of the Auditor-General and material relevant to their work.

Our purpose is to provide Parliament with assurance on public sector accountability and performance. Parliamentarians put our work to good use last year, referring to our reports and audits more than 100 times during Parliamentary debate . We hope to continue informing debate and aiding committee inquiries across 2011.

Members and their staff are encouraged to use this page, and to contact us by email if they have any questions.

Audit Evidence
We carry out our financial and performance audits in accordance with Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards, as required by section 13 of the Audit Act 1994. These standards require that we obtain sufficient and appropriate audit evidence for our opinions and reports to Parliament. It should be noted however, that this evidentiary standard is not required for comments and submissions from audited agencies, which are required to be included in our reports, nor for public commentary on our reports.
