201011 ACAG external assessment results

These reviews are undertaken by three assessors: an ex-Parliamentarian/Chair of a Public Accounts Committee, an ex Auditor-General and a member of the Board of the Australasian Reporting Awards recently retired from a senior public service position.

The assessors score each report against six criteria. Each criterion is given a score out of five by the assessors. The chart below illustrates the average score for the criteria over the last three years (shown on a scale ranging from 3.5 to 5).

Criteria average 200809 to 201011 (out of five)

Results of ACAG assessment

The score given for each criterion is added together to give an overall score out of 30 for each report and this is then reported as a percentage of the possible score.

The results of these assessments are used as a VAGO performance measure with a target of 80 per cent (the average score is converted to a percentage). In 201011, ten performance audit reports were assessed with the average result being 80 per cent. This is on par with results over the previous two years of 81 and 79 per cent.

These assessments provide VAGO with assurance, from an independent and impartial source on the quality of our reports. It also provides a complementary measure to our Performance Audit Client Survey results.
