Complaints about the conduct of audits
Complaints about the conduct of audits
specifically include:
- complaints and
allegations that the work performed fails to comply with
professional standards and regulatory and legal requirement,
and
- allegations of
non-compliance with VAGO’s system of quality control.
On occasions, feedback may be given
during an audit to an Audit Sector Director or the audit engagement
team and resolved during the audit. This type of feedback is not
considered a complaint under this policy.
There are a number of ways to make a
complaint, either verbally or in writing. Verbal complaints
may be made by contacting the Director, Methodology &
Standards, Financial Audit on 8601 7000.

If the complaint relates to a particular
audit engagement, you may wish to address the complaint to the
relevant Sector Director or another suitable member of the
engagement team.
Information to be included in the written complaint
When making a written complaint, please
provide the following information:
- your name, job title,
organisation and contact details
- your relationship with
VAGO
- the nature of your
complaint, including when the conduct giving rise to the complaint
occurred
- where the complaint
relates to alleged non-compliance with professional standards or
regulatory or legal requirements, please identify specific
standards or requirements that you consider may have not been
complied with
- details of the VAGO
employees involved, where applicable
- details of any prior
discussions with VAGO employees in relation to the
complaint
- copies of any
documentation you have to support the complaint
- the remedy or resolution
you are seeking as a result of raising the complaint.
Further action for complaints about the conduct of audits
If you are dissatisfied with VAGO’s
handling of the complaint, you have a right to ask for
reconsideration of the complaint by the Director – Methodology
& Standards. Such a request should be made in writing to the
address provided above. If you are still dissatisfied after
the reconsideration of the complaint, you may have a right to refer
the matter to one of the following bodies.
Complaints regarding the professional
conduct of a registered member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants in Australia or CPA Australia may be referred to those
bodies, as detailed below.
