VAGO Environmental Policy
The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) is a medium-sized
organisation with just over 160 staff that conducts financial and
performance audits on around 625 state and local government
entities. Our audits provide assurance to Parliament on the
accountability and performance of the Victorian public sector. Our
quality, independent assessments of financial and resource
management inform and influence public sector decision-making about
environmental issues and thereby improve accountability and
performance.
VAGO has adopted a holistic approach to environmental management
and is committed to leading by example. We aim to:
- minimise the
consumption of energy, water, paper and other material
inputs
- minimise the
generation of waste
- reduce our
environmental impact generated through travel and other business
activities.
We will achieve this by:
- reducing the energy, water and paper
intensity of our office-based operations
- purchasing ‘green’ power
- reducing the amount of waste we produce
and maximising the amount reused and recycled
- separating our office waste into reusable,
recyclable, compost and true waste components
- reducing greenhouse gas emissions
associated with our vehicle usage
- making environmentally sound purchasing
decisions
- working collaboratively with stakeholders
to reduce the environmental impact of travel
- developing sustainable business practices
within VAGO business units
- promoting environmentally sound business
practices by modelling desired behaviours
- empowering and educating staff to minimise
our environmental impact through staff awareness, participation and
feedback
- communicating our environmental
performance through regular reporting.
VAGO is committed to improving its environmental performance
over time by involving all staff in our green office program and
ensuring that monitoring and reporting on our environmental
performance is an integral part of our business. All staff have a
responsibility to assist in meeting these commitments.
Our commitment to improving our environmental performance
contributes to consolidating our reputation for excellence in the
public sector.
VAGO will comply with all relevant state and federal government
environmental management policy, practices, regulation and
legislation.
