John Doyle commenced his term as Victoria’s 26th Auditor General
on 1 July 2013.
Prior to his appointment John was the Auditor General of British
Columbia. Under his leadership, the Office built on existing
success in the Canadian and international audit communities, and
also expanded the range of both the types of work conducted and the
products created for the legislators and the people of British
On 27 February 2013, John was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee Medal—which was created to mark Her Majesty’s 60th
anniversary—for his dedicated service to his peers, his community
and to Canada.
Previously John was the Deputy Auditor General responsible for
all assurance operations within the Office of the Auditor General
of Western Australia. This included the conduct of the attest audit
of 210 agencies, special investigations and performance audits
across the Western Australia (WA) public sector.
John was an Associate Professor and Head of the School of
Accounting & Finance at the University of Notre Dame in WA. He
has also held other academic positions, lecturing in finance,
accounting, auditing, and software engineering/computer science. In
2007 he was appointed an Adjunct Professor.
While at Notre Dame, John was also Director, Corporate
Governance at the Department of Health. This role included internal
audits, special reviews, investigations and performance
examinations across the entire public health sector.
John has also held the position of Chief Financial Officer in a
number of major organisations in WA (Lotteries Commission,
Edith Cowan University and East Metropolitan Health Services).
John is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and holds designations from
Australia (FCPA, FCA, CIA, PFIIA), the United Kingdom (FCCA) and
Canada (CPA, FCA). He also holds a Master of Business
Administration and Master of Accounting.
