The Victorian Auditor-General's Office supports and endorses the Information Privacy Principles established under Victoria's Information Privacy Act 2000. These principles are applied to all activities within the office, except where the exercise of the powers and responsibilities of the Auditor-General under the Audit Act 1994 creates an inconsistency with the requirements of the Information Privacy Act. In these situations, the provisions of the Audit Act prevail to the extent of any inconsistency.

For example, VAGO has obligations under sections 19A and 19B of the Audit Act to notify IBAC and the Victorian Inspectorate (VI) of corrupt conduct or conduct that is relevant to the functions of the VI.
