Q1. Who do we look for?

People lie at the heart of our strategic plan and are key to building an innovative audit office known for the excellence and integrity of its reports and advice. We look for individuals who are creative, ethical and passionate and who are dedicated to prompting continuous improvement in the public sector.

We are seeking graduate and post-graduates who have majored in Accounting including those with double degrees. Financial Audit graduate positions require qualifications that enable entry into the ICAA or CPAA programs. 

 
Q2. What training is offered?

A one-year graduate development program is offered that includes both technical and soft-skills training, as well as being matched with a buddy who will be able to answer your questions about working for VAGO.  You will learn all about Financial Audit methodology as well as skills that will help you in your day-to-day work such as information technology, time management and interviewing for information. In collaboration with your manager, you will have a choice of the exact training components you undertake so it is best tailored to your own individual needs. 

VAGO will also support you in completing your CA or CPA qualification, both financially and with the provision of generous study leave. 

 

Q3. When can I submit my application?

Closing date for the applications for the 2012 program are yet to be confirmed.
 
Q4. I am studying a post graduate qualification. Can I still apply?
We welcome applicants with a post-graduate qualification, as long as your studies ensure eligibility to the CPA or CA programs.
 
Q5. What do you look for when selecting graduates?
We don't just look at grades, but rather the overall background of our candidates. The main selection criteria include university studies, work experience, volunteer and community involvement, communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
 
Q6. Can I apply for a position if I am not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident?
Unfortunately no, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident to apply.
 
Q7. I am in the process of applying for permanent residency status. Can I still apply for a role?
You may, but your permanent residency must be approved before the interview stage of the selection process. You should make a clear note of your current status in your application.
 
Q8. Should I apply for VAGO's Graduate Program if I live outside Australia?

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you may apply for this role if currently overseas but must ensure you will be in Australia for the interview.
