The ageing of Australia’s population poses challenges for
governments throughout the nation as they move to anticipate, and
meet, the emerging needs and expectations of the community. This is
no more apparent than in Victoria, where the state government has
the largest involvement in the provision of public sector
residential aged care of any Australian state or territory
government across the nation.
The community in this state expects that every Victorian who
lives, and is cared for, in a public sector residential aged care
facility will live a quality life in a safe and home-like
environment. There is also an expectation that those who work in
those facilities will be safe.
