In 2003, almost one million people or
20 per cent of all Victorians had a disability. Of these people,
around 323 300 or 6.5 per cent had a severe or profound limitation
that inhibited their ability to care for themselves, communicate
clearly or undertake normal cognitive or motor development
tasks.
The Department of Human Services
provides support for people with severe or profound disabilities
either in the form of shared supported accommodation with 24-hour
support or an individualised support package. The objective of this
audit was to determine the extent to which people with a disability
receive accommodation and related support services commensurate
with their need.
