Implementing Victoria Police's Code of Practice for the
Investigation of Family Violence

Tabled: 10 June 2009

Victoria Police is part of a multi-agency system that manages family violence, which includes the Department of Justice, the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, the Department of Human Services and the Department of Planning and Community Development. Police play a vital role in this integrated approach. As the first to respond to family violence incidents, their duty is to secure the victim’s immediate safety and refer them to support services and interventions as appropriate.

The audit assessed whether Victoria Police offers safety and support services to victims and perpetrators of family violence, which helps to reduce the impact of family violence on the community.
