Reports published in 2001

The following reports were tabled in the Victorian State Parliament by the Auditor-General. They contain the findings of performance audits and audits of financial statements, as well as reports on the finances of the state. All reports were prepared under the authority of the Audit Act 1994.

Tabled 16 May 2001: This report provides an assessment of how well the assets used by TAFE institutes in delivering vocational education and training were planned and managed; issues directly linked to the government’s policy objective of developing a strong skills base within Victoria.

Managing Victoria's Growing Salinity Problem

Tabled 13 June 2001: The management of salinity is a long-term undertaking and Victoria is now one third of the way into the 30-year Salinity Management Program established in 1988. The audit highlights the difficulties and challenges faced by the government and rural communities in effectively managing the salinity problem.

Report on Public Sector Agencies: Results of 30 June 2001 Financial Statement audits

Tabled 27 November 2001: This report sets out the results of financial statement audits conducted on public sector agencies pertaining to the financial year ending 30 June 2001, and the results of a number of special reviews undertaken up to the date of preparation of this report.

Departmental Performance Management and Reporting

Tabled 28 November 2001: This follow-on audit assesses the: adequacy of the central agency framework and departmental corporate planning, quality and quantity of the key departmental performance indicators processes, the preparedness of departments to accurately measure and report their performance against their performance indicators for 200102.

Management of Claims by the Victorian WorkCover Authority

Tabled 28 November 2001: The objectives of the audit were to assess whether actions taken by the Victorian Workcover Authority would redress the deficiencies it identified with the claims management system and improve the overall performance of the scheme. The audit also assessed whether the authority had adequately managed the coordinated care program, which focuses on claims that are complex, problematic, long-term and high cost.
