Reports published in 2002

The following reports were tabled in the Victorian State Parliament by the Auditor-General. They contain the findings of performance audits and audits of financial statements, as well as reports on the finances of the state. All reports were prepared under the authority of the Audit Act 1994.

Community Dental Services Tabled 30 October 2002: The objective of the audit was to examine the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of community dental services in Victoria. PDF of full report (809 KB)
Management of Food Safety in Victoria Tabled 31 October 2002: The objective of the audit was to determine whether the regulatory framework for the management of food safety in Victoria efficiently and effectively minimises the risks of food-related illness. PDF of full report (609 KB)
Mental Health Services for People in Crisis Tabled October 17 2002: Mental disorders are a leading cause of disability in the community, reducing an individual’s sense of wellbeing, and placing stress on family and social relationships and the wider community. This report provides a number of suggestions to the Department of Human Services, Area Mental Health Services and the Mental Health Review Board that can improve the services provided to people with a mental illness and their carers. Report of the Auditor-General on the Finances of the State of Victoria, 2001-02 Tabled 31 October 2002: This report outlines the results of the audit of the Annual Financial Report for the State of Victoria for the year ended 30 June 2002. PDF of full report (728 KB)
Managing Victoria's Air Quality Tabled 4 June 2002: The objective of the audit was to determine whether the Environment Protection Authority’s activities in monitoring and managing air quality in the short term, and reducing air pollution in the longer term, are undertaken in an efficient and effective manner. Management of Roads by Local Government Tabled 4 June 2002: The effective management of local roads is a core function of local government. This report identifies the specific practices, both good and poor, of individual councils. PDF of full report (459 KB)
Report on Public Sector Agencies: Results of Special Reviews and 31 December 2001 Financial Statement Audits Tabled 5 June 2002: This report sets out the results of a number of special reviews undertaken up to the date of preparation of this report, and the results of financial statement audits for public sector agencies with balance dates other than 30 June 2001. Nurse Work Force Planning Tabled 30 May 2002: The overall objective of this audit was to determine whether effective and efficient arrangements were in place for planning and managing the supply of, and demand for, appropriately qualified nurses across Victoria. PDF of full report (555 KB)
Investment Attraction and Facilitation in Victoria Tabled 30 May 2002: The objectives of the audit were to investigate the extent of state provided and coordinated industry assistance to attract new investment. International Students in Victorian Universities Tabled 18 April 2002: The combination of the level of public interest, the significance of the activities of public universities, and the magnitude of the costs and benefits involved led to my decision to examine the impact of international student programs in Victorian universities, and to provide Parliament and the community with an independent assessment of this activity.
