The following reports were tabled in the Victorian State Parliament by the Auditor-General. They contain the findings of performance audits and audits of financial statements, as well as a report on the finances of the state. All reports are prepared under the authority of the Audit Act 1994, and are tabled in Parliament.

Addressing the needs of Victorian prisoners 

Tabled 19 November 2003: The Department of Justice has introduced new approaches to the management of prisoners designed to reduce the rate of prisoner re-offending and the growth in prisoner numbers. This report identifies areas needing further attention if all of the benefits foreshadowed in the new approach to prisoner management, are to be achieved. Adobe PDF (3.4mb pdf )

Report of the Auditor-General on the Finances of the State of Victoria, 2002-03

Managing logging in State forests

Tabled 28 October 2003: Following a review of timber resources in 2001, the Government identified that if logging in State forests is to be sustainable, current harvesting rates must be reduced by about one-third on a Statewide basis. This audit examined the Voluntary Licence Reduction Program, the Worker Assistance Program and the Contractor Assistance Program. Adobe PDF (600kb pdf )

 

Improving literacy standards in government schools 

Tabled 15 October 2003: It was important that my Office examine this subject. The Government and taxpayers need to know whether the high level of resources applied to literacy are producing positive results. Report of the Auditor-General on Parliament's information technology upgrade

Tabled 3 June 2003: The objective of the audit was to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the planning and introduction of e-procurement in government agencies.

Report of the Auditor-General on RMIT’s finances 

Tabled 4 June 2003: The objective of this audit was to examine RMIT’s financial position and budgetary outlook and determine the adequacy of its budget management processes, including budget setting, monitoring and actions taken to address budget variances.

Fire prevention and preparedness

Performance management and reporting: Progress report and a case study

Tabled 30 April 2003: The aim of this audit was to: investigate the progress made in implementing performance management and reporting; and assess the accuracy of public reporting of performance information, and comment on the relevance, appropriateness and fair presentation of published indicators, in a selected area of public sector activity.

Tabled 29 April 2003: This report provides the opportunity for Parliament to re-assess how well it is placed to discharge its key role of exercising effective control over public finances and holding Executive Government to account, and identifies opportunities to strengthen the

Managing medical equipment in public hospitals

Drug education in government schools

Tabled 26 March 2003: The objectives of this audit were to determine whether: Victorian government schools have well-designed school drug education strategies in place; drug education is delivered to Victorian students in a manner consistent with

Department of Education and Training policy, guidelines and local community needs;

and student educational outcomes are monitored, reported and used to inform the further

Managing risk across the public sector

Tabled 18 March 2003: This report recognises the importance of effective risk management in the Victorian public sector.
