The report on the Government's Annual Financial Statement for the year ended 30 June 1997 outlines the results of the annual audit of the Statement, including an analysis of the operating result achieved in the year and the State's assets and liabilities at year-end, together with the privatisation of Government business enterprises and the sale of surplus and underutilised properties.

Major civic projects : work in progress

In 1993, the Government announced the Agenda 21 program of major civic projects aimed at revitalising the State. The audit focussed on four publicly-funded major civic projects.

The overall objective of the audit was to assess the extent to which: budget sector agencies achieve value-for-money in their purchasing arrangements, with due regard to probity and equity, and the current budget sector accountability framework is conducive to the effective management of the purchasing function.

Investment management

In past years, the Auditor-General has presented a number of Reports to the Parliament addressing the management of various forms of public sector assets. This Report continues the theme by examining the management of investments held by Victorian public sector agencies, an area involving assets valued in excess of $13 billion.
