Performance reporting in Local Government

Overview

Performance reporting by local government was reformed in 2004–05 with the introduction of the Local Government (Democratic Reform) Act 2003. Local councils are required under this Act to set strategic objectives, produce long term council plans and annually report performance in a performance statement.

This report reviews the effectiveness of performance reporting by councils focusing on the performance statements produced annually.
